This checklist is for planning, not a construction specification. Mortar, grout, waterproofing, backer, sealant and other product quantities cannot be calculated confidently from tile area alone. Confirm coverage and installation requirements in each selected manufacturer’s technical data.
Before you buy
- Verify the actual square feet per box and whether pieces are sold only by full box.
- Confirm production or dye-lot consistency where it applies, and decide whether to keep appropriate spare tile.
- Follow the tile and installation-product manufacturers’ requirements.
- Confirm the project- and installer-specific cut-and-waste allowance.
- Plan the complete wet-area waterproofing and substrate system—not tile alone.
- Check that each tile is suitable for its intended floor, wall, shower and wet-area use.
- Keep box totals separate when different surfaces use different tile products.
